Seasonal Skin Care: How to adjust skin care from Winter to Spring
Share
Spring has arrived with golden hours and pre-festive season moods.
Time to shed away the winter dry skin and revealing a healthy glow in time for spring fashions, warming weather, and the pre-season of festive events. Board Certified Dermatologists across the board recommend to:
Cleanse and Exfoliate
Spring time means warmer weather, longer days, and more exposure to sunlight. It is a prime time to exfoliate the build up of dry winter skin cells, cleanse thoroughly, nourish with anti-oxidants, and opt for a lighter moisturiser with more natural oils being produced as the weather warms. Ideally start by exfoliating once to twice per week either with a chemical exfoliant or a physical one, or a hybrid exfoliant (Both chemical and physical) to shed the old cells to polish and reveal your Spring Glow.
Evening School Night Rituals with Peels
Peels can be an effective way to remove the outer layer of dead skin cells, improve texture, reduce pigmentation and melasma, and reduce the appearance of fine lines. This will then improve the effectiveness and absorption of your home products, maximising the value you get out of them. School nights are perfect to fit in between commitments when you’ve clocked off from the day!
Lighter Moisturisers
In the Spring, we want to opt for a lighter moisturiser – think a lighter consistency and ultra absorbent. When it comes to moisturising, there are two types, emollients and humectants. Emollients moisturise the skin from topical application and humectants attract water and draw them in such as hyaluronic acid and ceramides for example. They can be paired together; for example, your Spring routine may include hyaluronic acid in the morning then sealing the skin with an emollient in the evening such as a nourishing facial oil to seal and protect the moisture in the skin barrier.
Antioxidants for a Spring in Your Step
Antioxidants such as Vitamin C, Niacinamide, Retinol sparingly, and Organic Fruit Extracts, Botanicals and Enzymes will help to lift pigment and give you a smoother, more balanced complexion at a cellular level. Timing is everything however! Some ingredients can make your skin sensitive to sunlight especially in the warmer months. So be sure to use Retinol at night time sparingly as the season warms.
Natural Sunscreen as a Staple
SPF 50+ during the day is vital in Spring to ensure pigment won’t return, prevent melasma and Sun Damage, and promote optimal cellular protection, skin cancer prevention, and reduce the formation of fine lines.
Choosing the Right Products
Always look at the ingredients and the packaging. Full disclosure of ingredients is important to know there are no microplastics in the product or primary packaging. Some synthetic active ingredients can maintain the pH of the solution which isn’t always a bad thing – as long as you are aware of the percentages and how your skin reacts, introduce new ingredients to your skin gradually.
Your Spring Glow up awaits!
